Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have filed for divorce almost two years after the Hollywood couple originally announced their separation. The actors coordinated their filing without lawyers, with Garner sending her court papers first and Affleck responding shortly after.
The ‘Alias’ star and the Academy Award winner are both seeking joint legal and physical custody of their three children: Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8, and Samuel, 5. Garner and Affleck previously announced the end of their marriage in a joint statement on June 30, 2015, just one day after their 10th anniversary.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the A-listers said then in a joint statement. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter,” they added.
The actors, both 44, met on the set of 2003’s ‘Daredevil,’ in which they played superheroes. Affleck announced last month that he had recently completed treatment for alcohol addiction. In a Facebook post, he wrote: “I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be.”
The former couple’s date of separation, as well as the division of property and any spousal support, is still to be determined.
