Florida Family Celebrates Every Holiday Before Their Dad Is Deployed

And how was your weekend?

A family from Florida celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and a birthday over the course of two days. When Olivia Clendennin and her family found out her father, Al, was being deployed, they made sure he wouldn’t miss a single celebration while he was away.

Al has been deployed one other time before, and that time, he missed New Year’s and his son’s birthday. With this in mind, the 15-year-old and the rest of her family decided to make the best of the situation and celebrate every single holiday at once.

According to Olivia, it was her mother Kathy’s brilliant idea to make sure her father celebrated everything – including his birthday which falls in December – before going to Afghanistan. She says: “We did it mainly because not only was he going to miss out on the holidays, we would also be missing him too. So, we decided to cram it all in before he left while we were all still together as a family.”

The festivities began on Saturday morning, when Kathy took Al out for a massage while the high school sophomore and her brothers decorated the house and cooked. The family celebrated Halloween first, then Al’s birthday, with a gift of a new laptop computer to stay connected while overseas.

Then, it was Christmas time. The whole family sported Christmas sweaters and played Andy Williams’ holiday classic “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” They celebrated Thanksgiving last. Olivia explains: “It was a traditional Thanksgiving; all the normal stuff. We even got olives because my dad loves those.”

The teenager shared a few photos of the celebrations on Twitter, and her post has been retweeted more than 90,000 times, and has over 329,000 likes. She says: “The fact that so many people from around the world are responding to it and sending my dad their best wishes and their prayers really makes my heart warm and restores some of my faith in humanity.”
