Erica Maison had the best surprise ever for her transgender daughter Corey, and she managed to capture the emotional and beautiful moment on camera. The mom-of-five from Detroit gave her teen – who came out as transgender years before – her first dose of hormones.
Corey loves riding her penny skateboard, obsessing over makeup and playing video games, and according to her mom, she was always feminine, even from the time she was very young. The 14-year-old loved to dress in high heels and dresses, but she wore boy clothes in public, so Erica assumed Corey might be gay.
The mother-daughter duo immediately scheduled an appointment with the gender clinic at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, and Corey received a puberty suppressing implant there. They’ve been waiting to start hormone therapy for more than two years, and the second Corey turned 14, they got the go-ahead.
Erica said that Corey had no idea when she would actually get her estrogen. The surprise – and the most pivotal turning point in her daughter’s life – happened on September 24, and the supportive and loving mom said that she will remember it for the rest of her life.
