“This photo has me choking back tears.”
A pregnant wife got the chance to reunite with her deployed husband through photography and Photoshop. Last month, Veronica Phillips reached out to Jennifer McMahon – a photographer in Miami, Florida – to schedule a maternity photo shoot.
The 29-year-old’s husband Brandon – a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force – could not be present because he is currently stationed overseas. The father-to-be left the couple’s Homestead, Florida, hometown around the time they found out the sex of their baby boy.
Given the circumstances, the mom-to-be asked McMahon whether it would be possible to incorporate Brandon into some of the photos – and the result is stunning. Phillips says: “All I can say is that I miss him. I wanted to honor my husband, and even though we are a far distance from each other, we are close in this picture. It symbolizes our love and commitment from afar.”
McMahon explains: “I had seen many photos where people were Photoshopped in, and I have Photoshopped siblings together before to look like one seamless photo. After playing around with several edits for a few days and many hours of editing, I posted the one I thought told the best story and would evoke emotion in all who saw it.” The photographer shared the heartwarming photo on Facebook, where it reached hundreds of thousands of viewers.
McMahon concludes: “This photo has already reached over a million people and I am so honored that my photo could do that. I know its not even the best photo, but its the story that it tells that means so much to people.”
